I’m here to let you in on a little secret: Data.com is already installed in EVERY Salesforce org. When people learn this fact, it usually elicits two responses: 1) “WHAT?!? How can I use it?” and 2) “What’s Data.com?” I’ll answer both of these questions in this blog post.
Salespeople: You can start using Data.com TODAY to aid in your prospecting efforts. This reason alone might be enough cause to go out and buy your own personal Salesforce, but that’s a topic for another blog post.
Ok, so what is data.com and how can I use it now?
Data.com is a database with hundreds of millions of people in it. And by people, I mean prospects. Prospecting is an oft overlooked part of all of our jobs. How can you go out and find some new customers? It’s hard…especially when you don’t know who they are.
Free Data.com can help with this. Every Salesforce org has a search-only data.com instance that lets you search the entire database by vertical, job title, and location to find potential customers.
Use Case: You sell to “Facilities Managers” in Albany, NY.
Data.com yields these results:
That’s 52 new prospects. Sure, you need to separate the wheat from the chaff, but still. It’s names and folks that you can search on and call. The free version of Data.com won’t give you all the details, and you can’t automatically import them, but if you can do some research (or “Sherlock Holmesing,” as I like to call it) on Linkedin or other venues, it’s likely you’ll figure out how to get in touch with these folks, and quite possibly make a sale!
Red Argyle is a Data.com partner and we help companies maximize their use of this tool, but regardless of whether you’re a subscriber (which brings tons of other great features into the mix) or are just using the free version, it’s a great arrow in your sales quiver!
